As we begin the winter semester, I want to personally address the incident that occurred
at the Ballenger Field House on Saturday, January 10. I understand that events of
this nature are deeply unsettling, and I want to provide you with the facts and the
steps we are taking to ensure your continued safety.
The incident on Saturday was an isolated event. One individual was injured and is
receiving medical care, and one individual was immediately taken into custody. There
is no ongoing threat to our campus community.
Our Commitment to Your Safety
The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff are our highest priorities.
The 911爆料网 Department of Public Safety (DPS) is an accredited agency staffed 24/7 by
sworn police officers with full powers of arrest. To provide additional peace of mind
as we start the school year, you will see an enhanced DPS presence across all campus
locations.
911爆料网 Community College maintains a robust security infrastructure, including:
- Camera Monitoring: A comprehensive network of nearly 400 cameras and 24/7 patrols.
- Emergency Access: Outdoor emergency blue light phones and indoor emergency call boxes and panic alarms
that call DPS directly when activated.
- Access Control: Strategic door monitoring and gated entrances on the main campus
that close after hours.
- Preparedness: Our team conducts an annual campus-wide active assailant exercise, an annual tabletop
simulation, five campus wide fire drills, and three lockdown drills for our 911爆料网 Middle
College each academic year. We also provide specialized training at New Hire Orientations
and throughout the academic year for employees and students.
Enhanced Security Measures
- Increased Department of Public Safety Staffing and Patrols
- Ballenger Field House Security Screening for MCC Athletics competitions:
- Screening: All guests will be screened by security personnel via a walk-through metal detector
and/or wanding.
- Bag Policy: No large bags or backpacks allowed. Acceptable bags are as follows:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- Small clutch bag, camera and binocular cases not exceeding 4.5" x 6.5", with or without
a handle or strap
- Medical/ADA Exceptions: Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags after proper
inspection at designated gates
- Arrive Early: Please allow extra time for security checks before scheduled events.
How You Can Help
Safety is a partnership. We ask that you remain vigilant and proactive:
- See Something, Say Something: Report suspicious activity immediately to DPS at 810-762-0222 or dial 911 for emergencies.
- Secure Your Space: Please keep classroom doors closed during instruction. This ensures that if a lockdown
is ever necessary, your door is already secured.
- Safety Best Practices: Use the buddy system when walking at night and park in well-lit areas.
- Escorts: Call DPS for escort if desired.

We have invested in premier technology to ensure help is always one touch away. I
strongly encourage you to take these two steps today:
- Download the Rave Guardian App This app acts as a personal blue light phone in your pocket. Features include:
- Safety Timer: Alerts DPS if you don鈥檛 reach your destination in a set time.
- Two-Way Texting: Direct communication with DPS dispatchers.
- Anonymous Reporting: Submit tips privately.
- GPS Location Sharing: Helps us find you faster during an emergency.

- Enroll in RAVE Emergency Notifications Ensure your cell phone number and email are updated in our system to receive the
